How to choose a generator in Abidjan

What to prepare for a proposal matched to your site.

Concept illustration

Define what must keep running

List essential lighting, pumps, air conditioning, servers, machinery and production equipment. Generator selection must account for simultaneous loads and motor starting.

Separate standby from prime power

Standby generation covers grid interruptions. Prime power has a different operating duty. Specify expected operating hours and how demand changes throughout the day.

Understand kVA and kW

kVA measures apparent power; kW measures active power. Power factor relates the two. Adding nameplate ratings alone does not replace a load and transient assessment.

Check the installation space

Allow for ventilation, exhaust, maintenance access, noise control and fuel storage. Qualified professionals should design the installation.

Compare total cost

Assess equipment, installation, fuel use at your expected load, maintenance and parts. Ask for clear assumptions and exclusions.

What to send JMG

Provide the site location, application, load list, available ratings, expected running hours and timeline. For an existing generator, include its rating plate.
